Abstract
Energy loss in electric power distribution networks remains a critical challenge that significantly affects system efficiency, reliability, and economic performance. This study focuses on analyzing, reducing, and optimizing energy losses within a distribution network to enhance overall operational performance. Both technical and non-technical losses were examined, with particular emphasis on resistive losses, transformer inefficiencies, load imbalance, and unauthorized consumption. Using load flow analysis and optimization techniques such as the Newton-Raphson method and network reconfiguration algorithms, the study identified critical loss points and evaluated possible interventions, including capacitor placement, conductor resizing, and distributed generation integration. Simulation results showed that optimized network configurations could reduce total system losses by up to 20%, improve voltage profiles, and increase power factor stability. The research concludes that a systematic approach combining technical upgrades, real-time monitoring, and data-driven optimization can significantly minimize losses and improve the reliability of power distribution networks. The findings provide valuable insights for power utilities and policymakers seeking sustainable solutions for energy efficiency and cost-effective network management.
