EVALUATING THE INFLUENCE OF OROFACIAL TUMOR IN PATIENTS. A CASE STUDY OF CENTRAL HOSPITAL,UGHELLI DELTA STATE

Abstract

Orofacial tumors represent a significant group of pathologic conditions that affect the oral and maxillofacial regions, with potential implications for aesthetics, function, and quality of life. This study titled “Evaluating the Influence of Orofacial Tumor in Patients: A Case Study of Central Hospital, Ughelli, Delta State” aims to assess the prevalence, clinical presentation, and psychosocial impact of orofacial tumors among patients attending the hospital. The study employed a descriptive cross-sectional research design, utilizing patient case files, structured questionnaires, and interviews to gather data on demographic characteristics, tumor types, duration, and treatment outcomes. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical tools.

Findings revealed that the most common types of orofacial tumors observed were ameloblastoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and fibroma. The majority of affected patients were within the 30–50 years age group, with a slightly higher prevalence among females. Results indicated that orofacial tumors significantly influenced patients’ daily functioning, speech, mastication, and psychological well-being. The study also highlighted that delayed presentation and limited access to specialized care were key factors contributing to poor treatment outcomes.

The research concludes that early detection, improved diagnostic facilities, and community health education are vital in reducing the burden of orofacial tumors. It recommends enhanced awareness programs, regular screening, and the integration of multidisciplinary management approaches to improve patient prognosis and quality of life.
