MANAGEMENT FACTORS INFLUENCING ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF STUDENTS IN PRIVATE SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN PH LGA IN RIVERS STATE
Abstract
This study examines the management factors influencing the academic performance of students in private secondary schools in Port Harcourt Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers State, Nigeria. It aims to identify key administrative and organizational practices that contribute to the academic success of students in these institutions. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected through surveys and interviews with school administrators, teachers, and students from a sample of private secondary schools. Quantitative data were analyzed using statistical techniques, while qualitative data were thematically analyzed to provide deeper insights.
The findings reveal that effective school leadership, teacher quality, and adequate resource allocation significantly impact student academic outcomes. Leadership practices that promote a positive school culture and foster teacher motivation are linked to higher student achievement. Additionally, professional development opportunities for teachers and the provision of sufficient instructional materials were identified as critical factors. The study also highlights the role of parental involvement and the implementation of consistent student assessment practices in enhancing academic performance.
The research underscores the importance of strategic management practices in private secondary schools to improve educational outcomes.
