ESSENCE OF STUDENTS TO EXAMINE THE VARIOUS SPECIES OF PROTOZOA
ABSTRACT
Great Kwa River is a large river located at Esuk Otu area of Cross River State which runs from the great Oban Hill.It has beneficial plants and animals in it. The essence of students to examine the various species of protozoa is to be able to give a good report on the field course 1(GBT321).Materials were used on the trip and there are methods that were used on the trip and there are methods that were employed in the study such as methodological and laboratory studies.Paramecium,Euglena,Amoeba,Chlamydomonas,andEudorina were the protozoa found in the Great Kwa River. Niperpalm,Reedetc were the plants found also in the river.Although they were microscopic plants(Protista) found also in Great Kwa River by the help of microscope in the laboratory of the Department of Genetics and Biotechnology,University of Calabar,Calabar,Cross River State.

1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 HISTORY OF UNICAL
The University of Calabar was founded in April 1975,as one of the seven new institution to be set up in the plan of the federal military Government in Nigeria which was a part of the 3rdNational Development Plan.The University occupies 17-hectares site on the eastern side of the town between the Great Kwa River and the Calabar River.
University of Calabar began academic work with three faculties which were Arts,Science and Social sciences in October 1979 with an initial enrolment of 896 students of this number,406 students were carried over from the University of Nigeria,Nssuka.In subsequent years new department were introduced into the system.
The school has its motto as Knowledge for Service which seeks to establish a mutual relationship with student from different states and linguistics group in the country and abroad to cultivate a healthy social intergroup relationship.
1.2 GREAT KWA RIVER
The Great KwaRiver(also called Kwa Ibo River).Originates from the Oban Hills in the Cross River National Park,located between the latitude 4.76670 and longitude 8.36670 with an estimated length of 36km,which flows southward to the Cross River estuary(Fresh water and Marine water).It undergoes semidiurnal tide cycle(every 6 hours the water flows in and out these makes the river increase and later decreases.
The banks of the river are lined with dark muddy nature which is usually exposed during low tides. This water being brackish is rich in micro-organism and debris. The banks are surrounded by lush evergreen forest vegetation with different species.At the opposite end of the river banks are mangrove plants(which serves as breeding sites and protective environment for aquatic life) with their differentiated roots which are exposed during low tide and have been replaced by interplant.
