Work is an integral part of everyday life, on an average we spend around 10 hours daily in the workplace i.e. around one-third of our entire life. It should yield satisfaction and happiness as it gives hope for the next day to start at a promising note. The present study explored the relationship of the eight constructs of quality of work life given by Richard E. Walton (1973) with the psychological well being of the employees of selected manufacturing organizations. The psychosocial variables included in the study were Quality of Work Life and psychological well being of employees in the selected organizations. The variables were assessed through the following Questionnaires – (i) A measure of Quality of work life developed on the basis of the eight constructs given by Walton (1973) and (ii)
A measure for employee well being developed on the basis of The General Health Questionnaire 12 (GHQ 12) of Goldberg and Williams (1988). Purposive sampling was used in the study and the sample consisted of 117 employees from two manufacturing organizations located in Noida area. The findings were encouraging as overall quality of work life has been found to bear significant relationships with the well being of employees. The implication of the study is far-reaching, as it propose an important instrument to HR professionals to deal with some of the very important variables affecting employee performance like Quality of Work Life and employee well being. It is a well known fact that in the times of crisis the companies with the best people survive. Human resources are the only resources with the privilege of giving cumulative and continuous returns to the business organization.
