ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA: THE PLACE OF ACCOUNTING SKILLS
Abstract
The aim of this paper was to link and delineate how accounting skills are instrumental to entrepreneurial success and sustainable economic development in Nigeria. It is a descriptive study that used a simple qualitative approach to analyze the framework developed to show the vital place of accounting skills especially financial management skill in entrepreneurship and sustainable economic development. The study started from the premise that accounting skill was found to be contributory to entrepreneurial performance and as such entrepreneurs are advised to embark on accounting skill training especially in the area of financial management and proper record keeping. The study also recommended that government at all levels should make it mandatory for entrepreneurs to keep proper books of accounts and prepare financial statements. This will further assist the government in assessing entrepreneurs that are financially stable and capable of obtaining loans and grants from them.
