THE IMPLICATION OF DRUG ABUSE AMONG NIGERIAN YOUTHS. A CASE STUDY OF LAFIA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF NASARAWA STATE
Abstract
Drug abuse and addiction has attracted global attention. In the past three decades or more, drug dependence in its various forms and contexts has emerged as one of the most salient discourse in social sciences. This research work titled: implication of drug addiction on Nigeria youths (A case study of Lafia L.G.A) is conducted to determine the extent to which drug addiction negatively affects youths in the society. Cognitive affectivepharmacogenic control theory of addiction was adopted and the use of questionnaire and interview methods employed. Multi-stage sample method was use to draw sample for the study.
The population sample of one hundred and eighty (180) respondents was selected through cluster randomly sampling and data collected was subjected to simple percentage analysis.The study recommends among other things that parents should be stimulated to meet their basic responsibilities to children or their wards, not to leave their parental duties to the society, and that strict performance at anti-drug laws should be done by various government agencies and disciplinary measures on offenders should be taken
